Pediatric Care from a Family Medicine Doctor

Part of being an American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM) certified doctor means gaining and demonstrating experience in treating patients of all ages, including children. Having a primary care physician who can treat a child as well as an adult in the same office is a significant convenience for patients at Bonita Family Care with Dr. Domingo Feliciano. Having a bilingual doctor who can provide healthcare in both Spanish and English is even more convenient for families.

What Does a Pediatric Family Care Doctor Do?

A pediatric family doctor is a little different from a pediatrician. Both provide healthcare for babies (infants) and children. However, pediatricians spend all of their specialty training focusing entirely on children while a pediatric family doctor is more broadly trained to treat patients from their birth into adulthood. Dr. Feliciano is a family doctor who is certified and experienced in treating children.
The benefits of seeing a pediatric family care doctor include having a doctor who can:
  • See mothers and fathers in the same office as their children. Family healthcare can be addressed in one location instead of arranging many appointments with many doctors who may be across town from each other.
  • See the same person from the time they are a child through to adulthood. At Bonita Family Care, we treat our patients like family and they tend to enjoy our long-term relationships. Children can keep the same doctor, even as they grow up, so they always have a doctor they can trust. (Click here for women’s care or men’s health if your kid is ready for adult care.)
  • Provide more affordable medical care than a pediatrician or specialist. Most health insurance companies charge higher co-pays for specialist visits and many pediatricians have higher upfront fees as well, making self-pay options more expensive. For everyday healthcare, a good family doctor is a better and more affordable choice.

These are all important reasons why a pediatric doctor is a viable option for primary care. It is also important to remember when you would see a primary physician for your kids. At Bonita Family Health, Dr. Feliciano can help your children with:
  • Antibiotics for ear infections or other bacterial infections.
  • Well Child Checks to ensure your baby is growing up healthy and strong.
  • Pink eye (Conjunctivitis).
  • Physicals for school or sports.
  • Physicals for immigration. Dr. Feliciano is a USCIS Civil Surgeon.
  • Annual check-ups. (Preventative medicine is important at all ages!)
